Hi, we’re the Farmhands!
We’re a worker owned cooperative farm, growing hazelnuts and apples on Kalapuya land in the Southern Willamette Valley.
Same Practices, Same Product, New Farm Structure
The cooperative was formed in early 2026 as a conversion from the orchard business of My Brother’s Farm, a multi-member LLC.
In order to dedicate more energy to each venture of the orchards and ranch, "My Brothers' Farm" has transitioned the ranch into "Grateful Bison" and the orchards into "Farmhands Co-op". Farmhands is managing 25 acres of hazelnut and apple orchards, the earliest of which were planted in 2013 and have been raised using organic, non-synthetic practices.
Same Dedication to Land and Community
Our mission is to support our local food ecosystem through organic orchard practices, agroforestry, and community-centered land stewardship. As we continue to develop a sustainable cooperative model, we hope to become a beacon of reciprocity, education, and ecological land stewardship in the Southern Willamette Valley.
What is a Worker Cooperative?
As a worker’s owned cooperative project we are guided by principles from Sociocracy; a circular organizational structure that emphasizes transparency, collaborative governance, and collective decision making. It is our hope that our organizational structure will support our mission to enrich and serve our community.
What’s going on at the farm this season?
In early summer, there are three primary orchard activities: mowing, watering, and pruning.
Mowing will happen more in the hazelnut orchards than apples since the hazelnut harvester will pick up everything off of the orchard floor, so we want as much of the cut cover crop to decompose as possible before harvest next season.
Irrigation is done once a year for each tree for about 12 hours using moveable overhead sprinklers. This keeps the tree roots hydrated while encouraging them to grow deeper in the soil in search of water, and keeps the cover crop growing lush.
Pruning is very minimal this time of year, but it is a great time to remove dead/dying/diseased branches.
